Pavers look great for years when they're sealed right
Florida is hard on pavers. Months of strong sun bleach the color out, summer downpours flush sand from the joints, and the humidity gives mildew and algae a head start. Once the joint sand is gone, pavers can wiggle, sink and sprout weeds, and bare brick drinks in every oil drip and rust stain.
Sealing is the fix. We clean the surface deeply, refill the joints, and lay down a sealer that locks the sand in place, brings back color and makes everyday messes easier to rinse away. Paver sealing is our favorite job at Peter's Pressure Washing, and it's the work we're proudest of.
How a paver sealing job works
- Call or text for a free estimate. Tell us the address, which areas you want done (driveway, patio, walkway, pool deck) and whether they've been sealed before. Photos help.
- Deep cleaning. A commercial surface cleaner takes off dirt, mildew and algae. We pre-treat stains where it's possible to lift them.
- Joint cleanout and fresh sand. Weeds and loose old sand come out, and new sand is swept into the joints so the pavers sit tight and level.
- Dry time. Sealer only bonds to dry pavers, so we plan around Florida's afternoon storms.
- Sealing. We seal the pavers and the joints, cut in neatly along walls, pool coping and screen enclosures, and cover nearby surfaces.
- Walkthrough. We look at the finished job with you and tell you how long to keep feet and cars off it.
Our sealer
We normally use ICT Ure-Seal H2O, a water-based paver sealer. After it cures it isn't slick underfoot, and it's safe around plants, pets and people. For faded pavers we can add a translucent tint that restores color while still letting the natural look of the stone show.
If an older sealer has gone white, cloudy or flaky, it usually has to be stripped before resealing. We'll tell you on the phone if that looks likely.
What affects the price
Every job is quoted for the property, so we don't publish a flat rate. The things that move the price are:
- Total square footage, and how many separate areas there are
- How dirty the pavers are and how much mildew or staining there is
- Whether old sealer needs stripping first
- How much joint sand needs replacing
- Clear seal versus a color-enhancing tint
- Access, such as screen enclosures, pool decks and tight side yards

Common questions
How often should pavers be sealed in Tampa Bay?
In our climate, most pavers do well with resealing every few years. Shade, sprinklers, pool splash-out and car traffic can shorten that. We'll look at how your current sealer is holding up and give you an honest answer.
Will sealing make my pavers slippery?
Our standard sealer, ICT Ure-Seal H2O, isn't slippery once it has cured, which is why we use it on pool decks as well as driveways.
Do you replace the joint sand?
Yes. Cleaning out and re-sanding the joints is part of our process. The sealer then helps hold that sand in place through the rainy season.
Can sealing bring back faded color?
A clear sealer deepens color a little. For pavers that are badly faded, a translucent tint can bring much more of the color back.
How long before I can walk or drive on sealed pavers?
It depends on the weather and the product. We'll give you exact walk-on and drive-on times at the end-of-job walkthrough.
